This is a little tribute to my cat, Ringo who passed away on July 26th, 2010 after over 17 great years. I'm going to miss her...I got her from friend who named her Ringo because as a kitten she had ring patterns on her fur that disappeared as she matured. So that's why a female cat had a boys' name. She was crazy affectionate, talked a lot and tried everything in her power to get me to wake up every morning at sunrise and feed her. She's been such a constant part of my life that it hard to believe she's really gone, but I was so, so lucky to have her for as long I did.

Dr. Bill Foster first appeared in AVENGERS #23 (1966) as the assistant of Hank Pym, who was the first Goliath. He became Black Goliath in LUKE CAGE, POWER MAN #24 (1975) and in 1976 he got his own comic that lasted a whole five issues. Black Goliath (who later changed his name to Giant-Man, then just Goliath) rambled around in comics like THE CHAMPIONS, THE DEFENDERS and MARVEL TWO-IN-ONE until he was killed in the Mini-Series CIVIL WAR in 2006.

This is my interpretation of the cover of his first issue, originally done by Rich Buckler as seen below. Click it if you want to see it bigger.

This is an animation test for Augie, a deleted character from the AT&T commercial. Early on, the animation was supposed to be shaky and raw. It smoothed out a bit as the commercial progressed.

A few friends and I got a nice shout-out in the lastest issue of BATMAN CONFIDENTIAL, written by my pals Tony Bedard and the super-talented Rags Morales.In the issue, Batman and Nightwing try to figure out the identity of the villain known as the Wrath. They know he's a orphan, but which one?
Well, it sure ain't me, Jorge, Tom or Jesse, who all worked with Tony and Rags at Valiant Comics back in the day! I think it's that Caldwell guy.

KUBERT DAYS

This was an assignment I did in my third year at the Kubert school (in 1991, I think). We were to take two pages of comic book scrip and pencil, ink and letter the pages. I picked Swamp Thing #26, written by Alan Moore. I'm a huge Alan Moore fan and figured this would be my only chance to kinda work with him. If you haven't read his Swamp Thing issues you're missing out on some of the best comics ever written. Looking back on these pages, I like some of the line-work, the page layout and the moodiness, but the anatomy is stiff. By this time, I had realized that I was much stronger using a more cartoonier style, but this was a fun challenge and one of the few Kubert assignment that I look back on and still kinda like. Back in my Codename: Kids Next Door days, I worked on a series of KND Sunday comics strip pages that were to appear in a European kids magazine. I have no idea if they ever did, but I was pretty happy with the twenty comics I produced and want to show them off. Most are plotted by Mr. Warburton and scripted by me, with inks by Rob "Iguana" Smith. The first two strips are colored by Mike Cavallero and the third by Erin Finnegen.

VALIANT YEARS Pt.1

A few months after graduating from the Kubert school in 1991 I started working at VALIANT COMICS. They'd only been around for a year or so, just starting to produce super-hero comics after doing comics featuring Nintendo characters and WWF wrestlers. I started out as a colorist, working with talented people like Jorge Gonzalez, Maria Beccari, Jade Moede, Mark Csaszar and Mike Cavallero. This was before computer coloring, so we did it all by hand (using Doc Martin dyes) and the pages were produced from the original color artwork. It was a lot of work but a lot of fun. The deadlines were insane and we lived at the office, often sleeping there to get the books out on time. We also had a lot of laughs (Anything is funny when it's 4am and you're sleep deprived.) We were all just young kids who loved comics and were excited to be working in the business. We all got along very well and there was a sense of camaraderie that I've never felt anywhere since. Anyway, here's some Valiant covers colored by me. This first batch of Archer & Armstrong covers were illustrated by the great artist (and great guy) Barry Windsor-Smith.
